Yee-Haw!
I'm reading a Western novel right now. A little uncharacteristic, I know, but I'm really enjoying it. It's called All the Pretty Horses, and is the first book of a trilogy by Cormac McCarthy. It was made into a movie with Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz...maybe I'll rent it after I read the book. I probably won't like the movie nearly as much, though, because my favorite parts of the book are the physical descriptions and writing style. Take these passages, for example:
"They slumped bleary-eyed in their saddles and looked at one another. Shrouded in the lack thunderheads the distant lightning glowed mutely like welding seen through foundry smoke. As if repairs were under way at some flawed place in the iron dark of the world."
"The grasslands lay in a deep violet haze and to the west thin flights of waterfowl were moving north before the sunset in the deep red galleries under the cloudbanks like schoolfish in a burning sea and on the foreland plain they saw vaqueros driving cattle before them through a gauze of golden dust."
So gorgeous! His descriptions are rustic and lovely at the same time. This book makes me want to hop on a horse and venture out into the wilderness. It's too bad that I have no idea how to ride!

Here Comes the Bride? Um, no.
I REALLY don't want to walk down the aisle to Wagner's Bridal Chorus, aka Here Comes the Bride. I'm such an odd bride. For some parts of my wedding, I've happily embraced the norm: the big, poofy white dress; classical music for the prelude and processional; traditional indoor ceremony. And then there are some things that are just too cookie-cutter for me...too expected. Like red roses to go with our red and white color scheme. NO THANK YOU. Daisies are much more "me." Similarly, I need to walk down the aisle to a song that suits me...not one that I hate because I've heard it at nearly every wedding I've ever attended (not to mention every fake wedding portrayed in TV shows, cartoons, and movies). So...what to do?
I was considering Ode to Joy because it's somewhat significant to me. I played a simple version of it at my very first piano recital when I was eight or so, and my mom walked down the aisle to it at her wedding. But Jordan begged me not to use Ode to Joy. He says it sounds too Christmasy. /sigh. I could always find a piano arrangement of one of my favorite love songs, but I don't want to go that route. I'm not going to have Grant play classical music for everything else and then throw in a random pop song, even if it is an instrumental version. How about.....
Largo by Handel?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMrugXrp5XE
Air on the G String by Bach?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tP66UH3ymbw
I love Largo, but Air on the G String is a little more lighthearted, I think. Opinions?
SIXTEEN DAYS til the wedding. EEK!
Geez...what am I going to blog about once the wedding is over? The joys and trials of life as an Applebees hostess? Hah.

So excited :)
I'm getting married FIVE WEEKS from tomorrow. Eek! I'm getting so excited, I can hardly stand it!! Getting a bit stressed out, too. I feel like there's a thousand tiny things that I need to get done...I'm scared I'm going to forget something and not think of it until the last minute! I can totally picture myself dragging my bridesmaids with me to Wal-Mart at 3:00 AM the night before to buy ten dozen little bottles of bubbles.
Jordan is so over all the planning! He keeps saying that he can't wait until it's all finished and we're finally married. I can understand that; I'm feeling pretty over the planning, too. It was so much more fun in the early stages when I could focus on the big, exciting things (like my dress and the colors!) as opposed to all the teeny tiny details.
So, Jordan told me Spencer probably won't be living with us this year. I'm both happy and sad about this. Happy because I'll have more space in the living room for furniture (and hopefully a keyboard); sad because our rent will be a little higher per person. And I like Spencer! I was starting to look forward to having him live with us. I don't think his plans are set in stone yet, though. At this point, it could still go either way.
Okay. Enough of this...I need to get to bed. I have a lot of stuff to do tomorrow!

Why am I....
STILL AWAKE?
This is just silly. I should have gone to bed hours ago! I have to get up and go to the bank before work, AND do laundry because I failed to get up yesterday to do it like I was supposed to. This is WoW's fault. It's taking forever to reinstall, and I'm too excited about it to go to bed before it's finished.
Speaking of finished......
It is! /cheer

Good ol' summer storm
My lights are flickering! I wonder if we will actually lose power. Losing power doesn't sound very fun when Jordan isn't home...if it does go out, I'll just go to bed, alone. No fun in that! The storm is calming down for now, anyway.
I found out today that Jordan's mom and aunts want to give me a bridal shower! I'm excited. Getting married is fun--parties and presents all over the place! In addition to this bridal shower, the church is going to give us a wedding shower, and then I'll have my bachelorette party, too. And then after the wedding, we'll have the big reception and then another reception a week later for the church.
I've gotten SO much wedding stuff done in the past week--it feels good to have all the big stuff out of the way. I'm not feeling stressed at all! I do, however, feel like all I ever talk about/think about is the wedding...what's something exciting going on in my life that's non-wedding-related? Hmm....
Ooh, I started playing the guitar again! That's kinda exciting, right? It feels amazing to be playing an instrument that isn't the flute (sorry flute, but you pale in comparison to the piano and guitar!). My fingertips are already feeling very calloused. :)
Okay, I'm done rambling. I'm going to try to force myself to fall asleep now because I have to wake up and do laundry before work tomorrow. Blah.
