Possibly my last blog of 2009.

I can't believe it's almost 2010! Craziness! This year went by so fast. Well, the second half, at least. Planning/anticipating our wedding made the first half seem like a year in itself. I hope all two of you reading this have lovely New Year's Eve celebrations. I'll be partying it up at Applebees. Whoo.

So, the mole on my collar bone is getting freakishly big and weirdly shaped. And yesterday, a dark spot appeared on part of it. I wish next Thursday (my appointment at the U of I dermatologist office) would get here sooner. I want this thing off of me. In the meantime, I really need to increase my turtleneck/high-neck sweater collection. I keep wearing the same shirts over and over so I don't have to show my freak mole. /sigh. Jordan and I are going to the DHS office today to see if we qualify for IowaCare (health care program for people that can't get Medicaid)...because we don't have health insurance right now.

On to happier things. Christmas was great. Jordan and I were only able to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas morning together because of weird circumstances (him having to work on Christmas night and the weather being so awful)...but we had a lot of fun with his family. And I thoroughly enjoyed spending a few days at my parents' house. My big present this year was a keyboard (YAY!). It's not a full-sized keyboard--I think it's only 60-some keys...but that's okay. If it were any longer, it wouldn't fit in the perfect spot where it currently resides in our living room. I love it! I've played at least two hours every day since I've been back in Iowa City. Today, I'm going to go to West Music and buy some new piano books. I bought the book for Pride and Prejudice's soundtrack, but all the songs in it are really similar...so that's not doing it for me. Plus it has a bunch of weird time signatures that annoy me (7/8, 5/8, etc). Anyway. I wish I could have spent more time in Burlington...I miss my family. :( Jordan and I should move back in with my parents. Or just move to an apartment in Burlington. I could transfer to the Burlington Applebees...or better yet, get back my job at the Great Wall! lol.

Okay. I need to get off the computer. It's already almost 2:00 and we still need to go to the DHS office and turn in our rental applications for the Valley Forge apartment. Stupid errands. Why can't I ever just have a lazy day off work where I don't do anything productive? Maybe I should take some lessons from my husband...lol.

Home Alone

Why am I never tired when I should be? I felt tired earlier today--I yawned every five seconds at work but now, at 1 a.m., I don't feel like going to bed at all...which means tomorrow's shift will be more of the same thing. Of course, even a full night's rest can't keep me from yawning my way through a morning shift at Applebees... /sigh

I finished my Christmas shopping tonight! All I had left were our gift exchange presents (both of our families do gift exchanges every year). That can be tricky--trying to pick out something that everyone will like and that's under $10--but I'm satisfied with what I found. While I was out, I bought two toys for the Applebee's toy drive. We're supposed to bring in a receipt to prove that we bought something over five dollars (its part of some contest with the other Applebees in our region)...and since I bought about fifty things at K-Mart and had a huge receipt, I thought I'd be cool and highlight the two toys on the list. Why didn't anyone tell me that a highlighter more or less erases the ink off a receipt? Obviously my manager will still be able to see how much the toys cost with simple addition and subtraction...but still, I feel kinda dumb. Oh well.

So, I'm home alone tonight. Bryant and Spencer both went home for Christmas already and Jordan is at work. It feels weird...maybe that's why I don't want to go to bed. Once I lay down in the dark, I'll probably start hearing odd noises that I would normally blame on someone else in the apartment...and then I'll remember that I'm alone and will proceed to freak myself out by imagining that someone broke in somehow. Yep. Maybe I'll make use of that lovely sleep feature on my TV... I really need to try to get to bed. After I get off work tomorrow, Jordan and I are going to try to catch a matinee of Avatar in 3D, and I don't want to be all sleepy for that!

I can't sleep.

Yep, I'm blogging AGAIN. I can't sleep...and I've spent an appalling amount of time facebook stalking, so I needed to change gears.

Sooo, Jordan and I saw Valley Forge Apartments today. Not the best looking complex on the outside, but very cute and cozy inside. With the exception of the small kitchen (which I could live with, since we wouldn't be sharing it with anyone else), it's a great size for us. The bedroom is bigger than our current one, and there's more closet space. I could totally picture Crosby running around the apartment! The only problem is that they want all of their tenants to have a monthly income of 3 times the rent. We only make 2 times the rent. We're hoping that they'll overlook that, since I'll be graduating in the spring and by summer, I'll be working much more than my current 12 hours a week. And if not, we're going to try to talk my parents into signing a lease guarantee agreement...because we really like this place!

Even though I'm on Christmas break, I still feel super busy!
Tomorrow--working a double shift. Hopefully seeing a late showing of Avatar after I get off work.
Sunday--going to Burlington to sing for the Christmas service at Flint Hills and to have lunch with my family.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday--Work.
Thursday--Spending Christmas Eve with Jordan's family.
Friday--Spending Christmas morning with Jordan's family. Then off to Burlington to spend the rest of the day with my family. Jordan has to leave Friday night because he's working at 11... :( but I'm staying in Burlington.
Saturday--Relax and spend time with the family! Hitch a ride back to Iowa City with Carissa and Brian...though this might happen Sunday instead.
Monday--Back to work!

Well, I'm still not very tired...but I feel really achy. Applebees was so busy tonight...we were on a wait list for two hours, so of course everyone was running around like crazy. Definitely not normal! My legs are hurting like they used to after serving a Saturday night at The Great Wall. Ugh. On that note, I think I'll try to get some sleep. I'm glad I don't have to work til noon tomorrow!

I'm on break!

Today, I went to Barnes and Noble and bought a book TO READ FOR FUN. And I got my haircut, in the middle of the afternoon. And I lost track of time because I had no reason to keep looking at a clock. I love being on break. :)

So, all my final exams, papers, and projects went well enough. I think. I don't know about that last one...(the one I hated so much that I had to blog about it). But I already know that I got an A- for my playwriting seminar and an A for my fiction writing class. Still waiting on the rest of my grades. I'm not really sure what to expect...I'm pretty confident I'll get an A in one of them, but the other two could go either way--A or B. I'm not too worried about it...just as long as my GPA stays at or above 3.5, I'm happy.

On Friday, Jordan and I are going to see a potential apartment for next year. I'm so excited! My hopes are very high. These apartments have just about everything we want--they're in Coralville (closer to Jordan's job), the rent is in our price range (plus hot water and heat are included), and they allow dogs! There's a swimming pool, too...definitely a bonus. If we get there and they're super crappy and rundown...I'm going to be really sad. Hopefully they're as great as they sound and we love them.

You know, I think I've been really good about not throwing so many surveys up here. It's been at least two weeks...so I'm sure you'll forgive me for this one. It's pretty short, anyway.

How old will you be in 4 months? 22.
Have you ever felt betrayed? Yeah.
How long have you been friends with your best friend? Over a decade.
Do you think you're dependable? Yes.
Are you single? Nope.
If not, what is your significant others name? Jordan.
Are you happy? Yes.
Why did you cry the last time you cried? I was very upset about locking my keys in the car and having to walk home from Hy-Vee in the middle of the blizzard.
Has anything exciting happened today? Not particularly...though I got pretty excited about scheduling the apartment showing for Friday.
Team Edward or team Jacob? lol...Jacob.
Do you even like twilight? It's okay. I liked the movies...I've never read the books. I've heard good and bad things about them. According to Stephen King, Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn, lol.
Where you single on your last birthday? Nope.
What color is your digital camera, if you have one? Blue.
What grade are you in? Senior in college.
What did you do yesterday? Finished my paper, went to my last class, walked Jack and Suki, took a nap from noon to five, then watched TV and drank wine most of the night.
Who did you last hang out with? Jordan, if he counts.
Would you rather shower at night or in the morning? Morning.
What are you wearing at the moment? Jeans, pink tank top, tan cardigan.
How did you and your best friend meet? School.
Do you always reply to texts? Not always. Sometimes it isn't necessary.
Who last made you laugh? Jordan.

Would you rather go out or stay in? Stay in.
Two best friends or a big group of friends? Two best friends.
How much time do you spend on the internet? A couple hours a day. Though that might go up quite a bit now that I'm on break.
What is your favorite movie right now? I'm bad with favorites. I'm not sure.
Would you rather be funny or serious? Depends on who I'm with.
Do you hate when people typ lyk dis? Yes.
Or lIkE ThIs? YES. The alternate lower and upper case letters is the worst...what a waste of time, typing everything like that! And it's harder to read, too!
What is the last book you read? Middlemarch by George Eliot.
What color is your hairbrush? Grayish.
What is the last thing you ate? Meatball marinara sub from Subway.
Can you drive? Yeah.
If so, have you ever been in an accident? Only as a passenger.
Do you tan? No.
Are you fingernails painted? No. I hate painting my fingernails.
Is anyone else in the room you're in? Yeah, Jordan.
How many people live with you? Three.
What is your least favorite color? I'm not sure...probably purple, though I really like certain shades of it.
What color shirt are you wearing? Already covered this.
Where is your dad? In Burlington, I think.
Do you have any siblings? Yes.
What are you listening to? My woodwick candle crackling :)
What time is it? 5:15
Did you like this survey? Sure.

I just wanted to say...

That I hate this paper! And that I can't believe it's already 10:30, and I only have half a page written. I started working on it at 7:30... In my defense, introductions are always the absolute hardest part of a paper for me. Now that I'm done with that, I'm hoping the rest will go by fast. Four and a half pages to go, and ten hours left on the clock (assuming I don't go to sleep tonight). I should have started this yesterday, instead of going Christmas shopping. Ya think I would have learned my lesson by now.../sigh. Back to work.

I'm a professional procrastinator.

I finished my online classes on time! YAY! Phew! It was pretty close...I took my vocab building exam about five hours before the deadline, and I turned in my final short story for fiction writing five minutes before the deadline...seriously. Yeah, I'm pretty much a professional procrastinator.

And now, all I have left for the rest of the semester is a one page critique of a classmate's play (due tomorrow), a group wiki presentation to give Tuesday morning, and a 5-7 page paper, also due Tuesday morning. The first two things, no problem...but I don't even want to think about the paper. 5 pages isn't bad at all, but I'm so burnt out and sick of school that I want to put this paper off until the absolute last minute. Which means I'll probably be finishing it at 9 AM on Tuesday, forty-five minutes before it's due. I'm starting to wonder if I'm even capable of writing a paper thoughtfully and carefully, over several days' time. I'm in my fourth year of college and it hasn't happened yet...

So, what am I doing today instead of working on my paper? Making a cake! Strawberry, with vanilla frosting. Jordan picked the flavors. I don't think it occurred to him at the time, and I didn't think of it til just now, but they're the same flavors as our wedding cake that we fed to each other. Aww. That makes me smile. :) I'm waiting for the cake to cool so I can frost later...I think I'll go do some Christmas shopping in the meantime. I can't believe it's less than two weeks away...wasn't Thanksgiving like three days ago?! Feels like it.

Snow Day!

Ah, what a delightful snow day it was. It felt so good to wake up at 8:30, see that classes were canceled, and then sleep til noon; I'm finally caught up on sleep! And I got a lot of homework done today--completely finished a project that's due on Friday. One less thing to worry about! I'm actually not feeling stressed out at all. I only have two big things left on my agenda--final vocab building exam on Friday and a 5-7 page paper due next Tuesday. By 11:00 on Tuesday, I'll be DONE! Well, until January 19th.

You know, I realized something about myself as a writer today: I hate writing second drafts. Second drafts of anything. After I write something, whether it's a poem, an essay, a story or a play, I want to be DONE with it. In the fiction writing class I'm taking, my teacher always sends me back really great notes on my stories, telling me what to keep in mind for my second drafts and so on. And I'm always thinking..."second draft? Pfft. No, this thing is finished." Which is actually really ridiculous, now that I think about it. I know nothing I write is ever perfect the first time; I know I could make so many improvements...and yet, I rarely make the effort. And I'm not even sure why I do that. A bad habit left over junior high/high school, I guess. I got way too much praise and not enough constructive criticism in writing classes. But it's suddenly occurred to me that if I want to be a writer, I have to get over my fear of second drafts...and even become open to third, fourth and fifth drafts. So...something to work on over Christmas break: REVISE all the old stories that I've abandoned.

So I guess there's a slim chance that the U or I might cancel classes again tomorrow. I, of course, don't really care because I don't have any Thursday classes. If only Applebees would close...I'm sure we'll be dead tomorrow. Who's going to venture out for lunch in a foot of snow? Not to mention the fact that tomorrow's high is TEN. Ten degrees. Yep. December, you suck. Anyway, since there's no chance of Applebees closing tomorrow, I should get to bed. I'll have to get up half an hour earlier than usual to dig my car out of a snow drift...

Warning: Incoming Pity Party

So...I just finished my commentary that's due today--the last commentary of the semester. And that felt really good, for about five seconds. Then I remembered that I have to finish a short story and turn it in online today, too. And I have to write a 20-40 page play by Monday...and a rough draft of my paper on children in Victorian novels is also due by Monday. And I need to turn in my last assignment for my vocab building class this weekend and take the exam by next Friday. Of course, I won't be able to take the exam at all if my professor doesn't grade and return all my assignments...which he hasn't yet. I'm kinda freaking out right now. If I'm ever a teacher at a college somewhere down the road, I'm going give my students a big project early in the semester and a teeny tiny easy one at the end. That way, they'll have one less thing to freak out about when they're all having their end of the semester panic attacks.

On a happier note, my parents are coming with the tree today! And tomorrow should be a good day...not working and vicariously reliving the wedding dress experience with Carissa. /cheer

OKAY, shower time.

Christmas Tree!

I'm confused about why my blogger dashboard is telling me that I'm not currently following any blogs...because I definitely am.

Jordan and I are getting our Christmas tree this weekend! Whoo! I'm so excited to put it up. We already have some miscellaneous decorations around the apartment that Perrian brought us--a couple Christmasy rugs, some snowmen, etc. All good stuff, but our apartment just seems sad and empty without the tree. At least to me. The boys don't seem to care...lol.

Well, aside from more complaining about work and homework, I don't have much to say. So...survey.

Have you ever snuck out of the house? Don't believe so.
Did you go out to meet someone? ...
What color is your hair brush? Gray.
Do you straighten your hair? Nope. Straightening it only makes it look thinner.
What color is your favorite jacket? Pinkish peach. I haven't worn it since I bought it in the spring...I miss it. I meant to get it out and wear it this fall, but I kept forgetting. And now it's too cold. :(
When is the last time you been to the zoo? I think I was ten.
Have you seen the movie Armageddon? Yeah.
Was it a good movie? I liked it.
Are you stuck up? Don't think so.
What is your favorite alcoholic beverage? Moscato di asti! Or peach sangria from the Olive Garden.
What about nonalcoholic beverage? Any sort of latte.
Are there any websites that are blocked on your computer? No.
What was the last thing to annoy you? The barrista that made my caramel macchiato got a big glob of caramel on the outside of the cup and I stuck my finger right in it.
Did you hear about Michael Jackson's movie? Yes.
Do you like girl scout cookies? Yeah! The mint ones and the ones with coconut on them are my favorites.
Are you optimistic? Usually.
Do you have mood swings? Yeah. They're not very violent, though. Jordan's probably the only one that ever sees evidence of them.
Tell me a random fact about yourself. Now that it's winter (well, almost), my hands are cold all the time. And will continue to be cold all the time for the next four or five months.
Have you ever been kicked by a horse? No. That would be awful.
Why are people so against gay rights? There's tons of reasons. Personal beliefs, personal biases, ignorance, etc.
What does your last sent text say? Ooh okay. Have fun! Just lemme know when you're on your way.
Whats the worst song you have ever heard? I'm not sure. The songs I dislike the most tend to be rap songs or rock songs where they just scream the whole time.
Are you a people person? Eh, to some extent. I definitely wouldn't say that I'm bad with people or that I have poor social skills...but I can be very introverted.
As a child were you ever bullied? Sometimes.
As a child were you the bully? Definitely not.
Do you lie to your family? No. I always don't tell them everything, but I don't actively lie to them.

Awake? Blah.

I can't sleep, I'm sick of watching TV, and I don't want to do homework. Need I say more?

do you have a favorite bowl to eat your cereal out of? Describe it. Just our usual cereal bowls--red, plastic, and square-ish.
What is something silly you've kept for sentimental reasons? Notebooks and notebooks full of crap that I wrote/drew when I was a kiddo.
If you are sitting on the porch and see an ant, do you squash it? No.
which electric appliance do you use most, battery operated included? The computer, if that's considered an appliance. I tend to think of just kitchen stuff when I hear the word "appliance," but dictionary.com tells me that it's any device, instrument, or apparatus.
favorite veggie as a kid, favorite now? Sweet corn on the cob, both then and now.
something you wouldn't order on a date, because you'd be embarrassed: I dunno, maybe a glass of milk?
would you rather be a passenger, or the driver? Depends on who else is in the car with me.
a toy you had as a kid, you'd definitely want your kid/s to have: Stuffed animals. Not exactly super cool, I know, but they were my most beloved toys.
something that still seems sort of magical to you, though you know it's not: Fire
an interesting food combination you "invented": I really love the taste of an iced mocha coffee from McDonalds combined with their french fries.
most comfortable piece of furniture to hang out on, at home or not: Our couches are pretty comfy.
where would you cast the ashes of your fave teacher: I wouldn't want to cast their ashes. Sure, they were my favorite teacher, but we weren't close enough for me to scatter their ashes...leave that to their family.
last thing you bought that turned out to be a waste of money: My Wicked t-shirt that shrank horribly and is now impossible for me to wear.
ultimate home made smoothie? I haven't made too many, but I really enjoy homemade Orange Julius-ish smoothies.
Do you check the zodiacal compatibility of friends, etc? Nope.
what "catch phrase" do you wish you could stop using? I don't think I have one.
When was the last time you stepped in dog doo doo? A couple months.
Do you hate the soap in public restrooms? Usually...tends to dry out my hands horribly.
do you use a wall or desk calendar, or just your phone/computer? I always used to get a new wall calender every year...but I haven't for a couple of years; totally relying on the phone/computer.
Do you have a good luck charm, item, etc? what is it? Nope.
do you follow the washing instructions on clothing labels? Very rarely.
Favorite food out of a can? Soup! Or corn. Both are quite tasty.
coolest name you've even heard for a pet: I dunno! I know I heard a really cool one on TV a few months ago and totally intended to steal it sometime in the future...and now I can't remember it!
when you have a crush, do you flirt or are you too shy and avoid them? Usually too shy. But if they flirt first, I flirt back.
do you really think bugs are disgusting, or say so because of others? No, I really have an issue with bugs. I don't know if I think they're disgusting, exactly...they just freak me out.
what do you wash first in the shower or bath? My hair.
What X-mas lawn decoration is your fave? I'm not a huge fan of the lawn ornaments...but I guess a classic snowman or cute Santa would be my favorite.
socks on or off in bed? Depends on how cold or hot my feet are.
are the windows where you live hard to open? Just a bit.
Nobody cooks ________ like grandma! She doesn't cook very well, to be honest. She bakes a really good pumpkin pie, though.
A word you use in place of a curse word in certain situations: Darn.
last place on your body you got a bruise: My hip.
have you ever bought clothes for someone else? who, why? Countless times for Jordan...because he hates shopping for clothes and would wear the same three items of clothing forever if I didn't do it for him.
do you even own a book version dictionary? Yes.
name a relative you laugh the most with. (with, not AT): Hard to say...it's pretty close between Mom and Dad.
what color is your favorite towel (you know you have one): Our big, fluffy dark green ones.
"As seen on TV" item you own, or would like to own: I can't think of one...one of the kitchen gadgets, probably.
Do you believe in Angels...even a little? Yeah.
do you use real bookmarks or impromptu ones? I usually don't use anything...I just remember what page I was on. Occasionally, I dog-ear a page or use a piece of scrap paper.
favorite pop tart variety, or invent a new one: Classic strawberry.
favorite position to read a book in: Sprawled out on the couch. Or curled up in a big comfy chair.

Okay, now I feel tired enough to fall asleep. I wish it wasn't 3:00...that means I'll sleep until noon or later and will likely have a very unproductive day. Oh well. At least I don't have any super pressing homework due on Monday.

Feeling nostalgic...

Well, Thanksgiving was lovely...but too short. :( We stayed at my parents' house Wednesday night and part of Thanksgiving Day, which was great, but I wish we could have stayed longer. I miss helping Mom decorate the tree (a day after Thanksgiving tradition)...I miss the old Christmas cds she always blasts while doing it...I miss warming up leftover corn casserole! /sigh. I'm feeling very nostalgic right now. And very resentful toward Applebees. Double shift today, double shift tomorrow. Blah. I've officially decided that I'm going to quit around January 15th, right before spring semester starts. I haven't officially told any of my managers yet...but I'm working on it.

Speaking of spring semester, I've finally finished registering for classes--my LAST semester of classes (as a undergrad, at least)...YAY! It was slightly nerve-racking without an advisor walking me through the process, but I think I did okay. As far as I can tell, I'm right on track to graduate in May. And if I screwed up somehow and end up a couple credits short...oh well. It won't kill me to take a summer class. Anyway, here's my schedule:

Monday--Writing Track Seminar: Fiction, 12:30-3:20
Tuesday/Thursday--European Lit. of the 19th Century, 2:30-3:45. Undergraduate Essay Workshop, 5:30-6:45.
Online classes--Classical Mythology, Human Memory.

I hope my online classes aren't too difficult. I needed some non-English classes (I'm dangerously close to the maximum 50 English credits...if you go over 50, the hours don't count toward your degree) and those two were the most appealing. I'm really excited for 19th century European lit--there's a bunch of novels on the reading list that I've always wanted to read but never have.

I'm a tad nervous for my essay workshop...I needed an advanced writing class to graduate from the creative writing track, and the pickings were very slim. I almost signed up for a fiction workshop, but I didn't for two reasons: 1) you have to turn in a short story as an application on the first day of classes...if they don't like it, you're out of the class. Although I don't think this would have been a problem for me, I didn't want to deal with the possibility of not being accepted then having to scramble to find a different class to take. 2) I'm taking the creative writing track's fiction seminar, which is rigorous enough. Taking an advanced fiction workshop at the same time would be really stupid. So, I'm giving the essay workshop a shot. I've never taken a nonfiction writing class before...should be interesting. I'm sure I'll learn a lot.

OKAY, I think that's enough rambling for today. I have an hour and a half before I have to go back to work, so I think I'm going to get cozy with some tomato soup and watch the Food Network. :)

I'm twenty-two! Yay?

So, today was my birthday. Pretty good day, all in all. Jordan and I slept in til 10:30...felt so good! I opened my presents immediately after waking up because I'm a grown-up and I'm allowed to do that (remembering back to my childhood, my parents would make us wait until after supper to open presents...torture, lol). Jordan got me this amazing 4-in-1 printer: printer, scanner, copier, and fax all in one. It's super fancy...and gigantic. It takes up the entire top of my bookshelf. He also got me a cute little Betty Crocker cookbook. Him and his practical gifts...haha. But they were two things that I really needed and I really love! My birthday fun was put on pause for a couple hours when Jordan got a nasty migraine that drove him under the covers. :( It was probably a good thing, though...I actually got some stuff done during that time. I did the laundry, cleaned the kitchen, and went out to Carissa's to walk the pups. Shortly after I got back home, Jordan was feeling better. :) We went out for a late lunch/early supper at Okoboji Grille. It was amazing--gooey, delicious mac and cheese (complete with hard-boiled egg "flowers" as garnish...that's what the cooks apparently decided to do when our server told them it was my birthday!), a caramel macchiato, and a free hot fudge sundae. YUM. If I wasn't stuffed enough from all that, Carissa took me out to The Olive Garden a couple hours later for soup, salad, breadsticks, and peach sangrias. :) Overall, it was a low-key but fabulous birthday.

Tomorrow we're heading to Burlington in the afternoon. I'm so excited to see my parents and my brothers! And the dogs!! I'm glad we're going home before Thanksgiving...I want to spend some time with my immediate family before all of our extended family comes. The house is going to be packed--in addition to my parents, brothers, and sister-in-law, there will be my grandparents, four uncles, two aunts, one uncle's girlfriend, three cousins, and two or three second cousins. It's been a while since we've had so many people come for Thanksgiving! I'm excited. I wish we could stay all day Thursday, but Jordan and I have to leave at 2:30 so we can have Thanksgiving with some of his family, too. He thinks we're going to be able to eat a little bit at each dinner...but I don't see that happening! I love my mom's various casseroles too much to hold back. I'm slightly depressed that we have to be back Thursday night because of our work schedules...but what can ya do. I'm happy that we both have Wednesday off, at least.

Mmk, here's a stupid survey.

Have you ever been heartbroken? Yeah. Not beyond repair, though.
What is your favorite color sharpie? I like the classic black ones. Or green.
Do you have a band you are absolutely obsessed with? Not really.
Do you prefer iTunes or Windows Media Player? I like winamp, actually. Between those two, I guess iTunes.
How many best friends do you have? Four, when I count my husband and my mom.
Is there anyone who is like your other half? Yep.
Have you ever felt like you completely wasted your time on someone? Oh yes.
Do promises mean anything to you? Of course.
Does your mood change whenever it rains? Sometimes. It's never JUST because of the rain, though. It's because the rain either complements or ruins what I want to do that day.
Have you ever seen a Colorado sunrise? I believe I have. I can't remember very well, though. I was only twelve or thirteen when I was there.
Which band is better [in your opinion]: Aiden or Saliva? I don't know either of those bands.
Have you ever fell going up the stairs? Yep.
Do you have someone who is like an escape for you? Yes.
Have you ever had to remind yourself to breathe? I don't believe so.
How good are your math skills? Not very good...but not completely horrible. I passed the one college math class I had to take (with a C+), so they could be worse.
Do you ever wish you could be the opposite sex for a day? Not sincerely. Maybe more like five minutes...just long enough to get a sense of what it feels like.
Is there someone who you'll always have feelings for? Yes.
Do you believe in the beauty of people's dreams? I'm not sure what you mean by that. Dream as in goals/aspirations, or as in what you do when you're asleep?
What inanimate object could easily be your best friend? [tv, fridge, etc] Computer. Or coffee maker.
How often do you cry? Not very often, though it varies, depending on what's going on in my life. For example, I've cried more than usual in the past couple of months because I've been so stressed out.
Where do you see yourself in five years? I bet we'll have a baby by then. I'll probably have my masters by then...maybe I'll be teaching creative writing somewhere, or working for a magazine. Or I'll have a completely random job and will be working on a fabulous novel in my free time, lol.
Is there anyone who puts a smile on your face as soon as you see them? Yep--several people. And animals.
Do you turn to alcohol when times are tough? No.
Have you ever seen a black rose? Only in pictures.
Would you be willing to wait for someone? You should be more specific.
What is your favorite country song? Meh. I dunno. I like Come Home Soon because Carissa and I sang it in high school.
What is the most played song on your playlist? I dunno.
Are you one to constantly seek revenge? No. I'm really not one to ever seek revenge, let alone constantly.
What do you think of the band Cute Is What We Aim For? Don't know anything about them.
Do you make or avoid eye contact? Depends on the situation. At work, I make eye contact. When I'm walking on the street or any random public place, I tend to avoid it. I also avoid it when I'm nervous.
How often do you feel like giving up on everything? If everything literally means everything, never.
If you could dye your hair any color, what would it be? I can dye it any color...and I choose to keep it brown. Now if you were asking if I could permanently change my hair color (without the annoyance of having to re-dye it repeatedly), I might change it to very dark brown...I think that is so pretty when it's natural. Or auburn--also very pretty when it's natural.
What does your favorite bodywash smell like? Sweet peas and violet.
How many people do you fully trust? Three for sure. Perhaps a few more.
Is there someone in your life you think you'd be better off without? No.
How many times have you been played by the opposite sex? Not something I have a running count of...but more than once.
Would you rather listen to opera music or heavy metal? Opera.
Clowns are creepy: true or false? They can be. Generally, they don't bother me.
How many times in a relationship have you said i love you and not meant it? Not very many. Maybe a few, in some of my shorter relationships.
How many times have you meant it? Thousands.
Do you ever feel unbeautiful? Yeah.
How often do you just fall apart? Not very often. Like how often I cry, this is relative to what is going on in my life.
Have you ever felt like it was you against the world? Oh, a few times.

I thought things were getting better...

But they just got worse.

The professor for my writing house seminar returned the paper that I wrote last week on Dora Malech's book of poems...she wrote me a note saying it was an elegant, specific study and I did excellent work. HOWEVER, I forgot to hand in the creative portion of the project. ... So, I speak to her after class today (our last class, since we're on a compressed schedule) to ask her what she means: isn't the creative response paper due to your mailbox tomorrow? As it turns out, we weren't supposed to do a 5-7 page study on one author and then a 3-4 page creative response on another...We're supposed to do both, for two authors. So two 8-12 page two-part papers. And I KNOW I'm not the only one who misunderstood the very vague syllabus, because she had to clarify the same thing to someone else right after me.

So. Why does this suck so bad? Because I thought I only had to write a 3-4 page paper tonight. Not only does that paper actually have to be at least twice as long, but I also have to add on 3-4 pages to last week's paper. And all of it is due tomorrow at 4:30. AND I have to work tomorrow morning...so really, it has to be done by 10:00 tomorrow morning. I never use this acronym and it always annoys me how flippantly people use (and overuse) it...but it seems appropriate right now: FML.

Did I mention that all this is for a TWO CREDIT, PASS/FAIL class?! It's ridiculous that they expect so much for so little. In all the three credit, standard grading scale English classes I've taken, I've never had to write two papers that were each over 8 pages in length. It's always two medium papers...or a small paper, then a bigger one...as I thought was the case for this class. GRR! SO MUCH FOR SLEEPING TONIGHT. I guess I should stop venting and go get started...

Not kicking the habit just yet...

Yep, a survey. But a really cool one! One of the most unique surveys I've ever taken. The writer of it seems to like a lot of the same nerdy stuff as me :P

IMAGINATION
What do you normally find yourself daydreaming about: Things to write about, Jordan's and my future.
If you could add another species to this world, what would you choose: Unicorns!
If Aslan appeared before you and asked you to come to Narnia, would you: Yeah!! Just for a vacation, though. lol
What have you most recently wished for that has come true: To have a full night's sleep! I got it last night, thanks to the fact that I was able to reschedule the exam I was supposed to be taking right now. I don't have to take it until Tuesday now :)
Do you believe in fairytale love: Well, in fairy tales, the people that fall in love always seem destined to be together--I believe in that. As for other aspects of fairy tale love...not so much.
What is your favorite fairy tale: I'm not sure...I can't remember most of the ones I used to read. I'm going to be lame and predictable and say Cinderella.
Why do you like this sort of fairytale the most: I like romances, and little mice. :) Although I don't know if the mice are in the original fairy tale, or just the Disney movie...
Is there any novels, short stories, etc that you can easily relate to: Yeah. Usually books with writers/book lovers in them...go figure, lol.

THERE IS LIGHT AHEAD, FOLLOW IT MY FRIEND.
Sometimes do you think that there is more behind reality than what you see: Yeah.
Is there a famous person living or dead that you can relate to: Probably. But I can't think of anyone right now.
Very well then, if so, who is this person you very well speak of:
Why do you relate to this person as you do. Please be quite specific: Guess I ruined this section by not being able to think of someone...oh well.

A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM
If you could be any creature of fantasy or sci fi, what would you be: Elf. The Lord of the Rings variety.
Have you ever thought of something overly morbid: Yeah.
What was this thought, if you will. I am morbid, so feel free to answer: Awful ways to die, what it would be like to be buried alive, etc.
What is the most recent thought you've thought of: Before this survey? I want to listen to Christmas music! So I am.
If someone ran over your pet, how would you kill them: Oh no! :( You're right, you are morbid. I wouldn't kill them...though I would definitely have an immediate impulse to hurt them, a lot.
Do you like Edgar Allen Poe: Yeah, what I've read of him.
What poem or story of his do you like the most: The Cask of Amontillado
If someone could tell you the mystery behind life, would you want to know: There's a mystery behind life?
If not, or if so, what do you think the reason or mystery of life truly is: Oh, the reason. You should have said that before. I think it's probably a little different for everybody...but I feel the purpose (I like this word better) of my life is to love God, love people, love myself...and try to do my little bit of good for the world.
Why do you think balloons burst before getting out of Earth's atmosphere: I'm sure it has something to do with air pressure or something...but I'm not a science buff, so I have no idea, really.

AND I PLACED HIM BENEATH THE FLOOR AND HIS HEART STILL BEAT EVERMORE!
What inanimate object would you be if a mage cast a spell upon you: A book
Do you like The Lord Of The Rings: I've never read the books (shocking, I know), but I loved the movies.
If so, what do you think of Hobbits: I'm a fan.
If you could ride a Unicorn or Falkor, who would you choose: A unicorn
If you could be a Satyr or a Centaur, which would you choose: Centaur
What do you think of Disney: I like Disney movies and I'd like to go to Disneyworld or Disneyland someday. That's as far as my opinion goes on the subject.
Which Disney film do you like the most: Beauty and the Beast
Do you like The Venture Bros (The Monarch is hilarious!^^): I don't know anything about it.
What type of music do you like: Christian, rock, indie, acoustic, pop, trance, jazz, classical, Broadway...
What favorite band do you like that you could not stop liking: I tend to like individual artists more than bands. I'll always love Kelly Clarkson and Nichole Nordeman.
If you are in a bad mood, please state the cause: I'm not :)
Do you ever think of death so much it depresses you: Not very often.
What worries you the most out of everything that could possibly worry you: People I love dying--especially the idea that it could happen unexpectedly.

FANTASY IS THE REALM AGAINST REALITY. REALITY IS THE REALM THAT IS MUNDANE.
What type of books do you normally like to read: Fiction in general. I like them to have a bit of romance in them.
What are you listening to as of this very moment: The Christmas Song, sung by Avalon.
Do you like any of the Star Trek shows: I've never watched Star Trek.
If so, which is your favorite. If not, why so: I've just never taken the time to watch it, like so many other shows on TV. Also, I hardly ever turn to the Sci-Fi channel.
Is there something you want to tell someone but cannot: Not really.
If so, what is it:
Did you like my survey: Yes.

One thing down...thirteen to go.

I survived the preparation group panel crap! Yay! I had a nervous knot in my stomach all day and even contemplated skipping out. That's how much I hate speaking in class when I feel ill-prepared. But I forced myself to go...not fulfilling a key requirement in a pass/fail class would probably be grounds for a fail. Miraculously, I managed to not make a fool of myself and actually made a few good points about the poem I brought up. I felt compelled to reward myself with a double shot caramel macchiato from t-spoons.

So, glad that's over with. Now I only have about a billion things left to do before the semester ends!
-Playwriting seminar: Final project--a one act play, 20-25 pages...not due til finals week
-Writer's House seminar: Dora Malech reflection paper, 5-7 pages...due tomorrow. Creative response paper to any guest author, 3-4 pages...due next Thursday. I wish the page number requirements for these two papers were switched...
-Fiction writing: Three more short stories to turn in by finals week.
-Vocab building: Midterm to take this Friday (lol...I'm a little behind in this class), three more assignments, and a final. This class is worrying me the most because my assignments have to go through the mail. It takes a little longer...and I'm not allowed to take my final until all my assignments have been graded and returned to me. Hopefully I'll be able to finish everything in four weeks.
-Prose of Victorian Women Writers: complete VicWik (Victorian Wiki) website on Charlotte Bronte, due...soon? I should figure that out.... And a 5-7 page compare/contrast paper, due finals week.

Did I say a billion things? I meant thirteen. That's not so bad, right? All that seems perfectly do-able in four and a half weeks (with the exception of my vocab building class...which only seems somewhat do-able).

My mom bought me the movie Sense and Sensibility. I am SO in the mood to make some hot chocolate, curl up with a blanket and watch it right now. As lovely as that sounds, that would be a very bad choice. I think I'll save it for my Friday night slumber party with Jack and Suki. :)

I'm following the examples of my noble blog followers and NOT posting a survey.

I'm just a stupid fiction writer

The writer's house seminar sucks. It's a good idea in theory...but in reality, it's boring and has way too many assignments and projects for a 2 credit hour class. One fantastic example is "preparation groups." The week before a guest author comes to talk to us, a group of students have to lead the class in a discussion about the author and their work. My preparation group is presenting tomorrow and I have NO CLUE what I'm going to talk about. Since the groups were assigned randomly, there are a lot of fiction writers that were put into groups that are discussing books of poetry. Like me...and almost everyone else in my group. Poetry isn't my thing, but I'm not totally dense about it...I've taken American poetry, British poetry, and poetry writing, so I have a decent grasp of it. So, when half the people in my preparation group claimed to have no understanding of poetry whatsoever and started begging for easy topics like our author's biography and reviews of her book, I agreed to talk about the actual poems. The problem is that I don't like the book very much. It's that cryptic sort of poetry. Here's a good example of the crazy cryptic-ness: "I want to say a simple case of cause/and defective, cause and deflected/defected, case in point and shoot,/in casualties and disaffected/and I do say, but imagine the words/not black and white but grey on grey." I'm sure that's quite meaningful to the poet...but it sounds like nonsense to me. Catchy, but nonsense, nonetheless. But I can't say that in class, because some other student who lives for poetry and wants to be a poet will laugh at me and tell me the lines make perfect sense and I'm just a stupid fiction writer. WHY did I have to get put in this preparation group?! We studied a different book of poetry earlier in the semester...I LIKED that one! I would have been happy to talk about that one! Not that there's anything wrong with this book...it's just not the kind of poetry that I would prefer to read or enjoy reading. /sigh. I am SO happy that the English department is getting rid of the house seminar portion of the creative writing track. I would go crazy if I had to take it again next semester...

Okay. I'm done ranting. All the ranting in the world won't change the fact that I do indeed have to come up with something to say about the book and I have to come up with it tonight. But first...

Have you ever cuddled with someone you weren't dating?
Yeah.

What shirt were you wearing when your last kiss took place?
Black tank top

Not really.

Is anything annoying you right now?
All the crap I have due for my writer's house seminar...UGH.

Do you miss someone?
Yeah.

In school, how was/is your attendance record?
Pretty good in high school. I never had unexcused absences--my mom always called in for me. College...it's okay. I'm doing a lot better this semester than previous ones, that's for sure.

What are you sitting on right now?
A computer chair.

Will you be in a relationship next month?
Yeah.

Do you think there are circumstances when it's okay to wait for someone?

Do you have your tongue pierced?
No.

Can you count on anyone to be there for you, always?

Yes.

Do you hate the last guy you had a conversation with?
No.

Say the last person you kissed was kissing someone right in front of you?
I'd be pretty shocked. And mad. That's something he would never do unless I urged him to do it...and I can't imagine why I would.

Will you talk to the person you like tonight?
Yeah.

Have you ever kissed the last person you kissed inside a vehicle?
Yes.

Will you be sleeping alone tonight?
Yep. Jordan's working.

Who's the last person that texted you?
I dunno. It was probably Carissa.

Pretend you've had 10 beers. Describe what you would be doing right now?
Maybe puking. It's hard to imagine because I've never been able to choke down more than one or two beers, since I hate the taste.

Do you think there's a difference between love and in love?
Yes.

Are both of your blood parents still in your life?
Yeah.

If you could, would you date the last person you texted?
If it was Carissa, no.

Fact about the last person you kissed?
He got drunk in the middle of the day today because our fridge had too much wine in it and he decided he should finish one of the bottles to make room for our groceries. lol

When is your birthday?
November 24. Two weeks away!

Do you believe that there's good in everybody?
Yes.

Have you had sex with four or more people in one night?
No.

What happened last night?
Watched Heroes with Jordan, worked on some homework, did laundry...nothing too exciting.

What was the last thing you did before bed last night?
Washed my face.

Does anyone know your password besides you?
Yeah.

How was your day?
Super busy. Had a long shift at Applebees (for a Tuesday morning, at least), ran a lot of errands after work, and have a lot of homework that I need to finish. It's kind of ridiculous that I'm even taking a break...oh well.

As usual

Putting off homework as long as possible...as usual! Here's a ridiculously long survey.

Hi, your name is?
Amy

Who are you dating?
I'm married, so I don't actually date anymore.

Where do you think the person you like is right now?
He is right behind me in his computer chair, playing his new game.

Who was the last person that hugged you?
Jordan.

Are you taller than 5'6"?
Nope.

Do you prefer your tea sweetened or unsweetened?
If it's iced tea, definitely needs to be sweetened. I like hot tea either way.

What are you plans after this?
Finish my short story, study for my latin vocab midterm, maybe work on my play.

Do your jeans have rips, tears, and holes in them?
No. Well, the bottom of the jeans I'm wearing now are somewhat ripped because they're too long.

Have you ever kicked a vending machine?
I don't think so.

Do you watch Grey's Anatomy?
No.

Do you know anyone with the same name as you?
Yeah. Well, not in its entirety. But I know a few Amys and I know plenty of Lockes.

Do you like watching scary movies?
No.

Have you ever met a gay person?
Yes.

When was the last time that you told someone that you loved them, and meant it?
Last night before I went to bed.

Do you ever delete people off your myspace?

Yeah.

Have you ever been called heartless?
I don't think so.

Are you in a good mood?
Yeah, pretty good.

NOVEMBER!

I can't believe it's November already!! My birthday is almost here... :) And Thanksgiving! I'm so excited for a week off classes. Hopefully I'll be caught up with my online classes by then. If I don't finish one of them, it's not a huge deal--I can finish them next semester. I really don't want to have to do that, though. /sigh. I think I should be able to get caught up this week--I'm only working two shifts. I have the entire upcoming weekend off--how crazy is that?! I was in shock when I saw that I wasn't scheduled on Saturday. I think this will be my first Saturday that I've had off without request. Jordan also happens to have the weekend off, so we're going to have a belated 1/4 year anniversary dinner and/or movie date. Then on Sunday, I'm going to Burlington for the Mark Schultz/Point of Grace concert with my parents. Maybe I won't get much homework done over the weekend after all...lol.

I am so cold!! Well, my hands in particular. My fingers don't want to move properly...it's actually kind of difficult to type. I forgot about this. Stupid cold weather. /scowl. All I can think about right now is the delicious WARM caramel macchiato I had at Okoboji Grille. I wish we had an espresso machine...I hinted to Jordan that it would be a fantastic birthday or Christmas present. I guess plain coffee will just have to do for now! And on that note, I'm off to make some. And hopefully get some of my homework done.

Ah, Sunday

I love not working on Sundays! It feels fabulous to have a day off before starting another crazy week of classes. I actually got up and went to church this morning (www.parkviewchurch.org). With the exception of a few visits, I haven't been to church since I moved out of my parents' house. I've kinda missed it, to be honest. I like Parkview, so far. It's a very nice church; definitely a change of pace--it's more contemporary than Flint Hills about six times bigger. I'm thinking about trying to go more regularly...

Well, my pile of homework isn't horribly overwhelming today, as it is most Sundays. I just have to read a play, write a 5-10 page scene (where two characters have conflicting wants...should be fun. I love that we just have to write a scene and not a whole freaking play, as usual!), and read eight chapters in Lady Audley's Secret (a scandalous Victorian novel about bigamy, murder, and all kinds of juicy stuff. Well, juicy for the Victorians). Definitely not as bad as the last two Sundays. The fact that I have a pan full of apple crisp and a pot full of coffee to keep me company through the day certainly helps, too. I guess I should get started, huh? But first!...

Hey you. How's it going? Pretty good.
Anything horrible happened today? Nope.
Describe the best day of your life so far. I married the love of my life and had a wonderful time celebrating it with my closest friends and family.
How's your summer going? It's not summer anymore...but my summer went well.
Do you have a job? If so, do you like it? Yes, I have one. No, I don't really like it. The longer I'm there, the more okay I am with it, though. I'm to the point where I can just be on autopilot for three or four hours, so it's not so bad.
Are you more outgoing & hyper, or shy & quiet? More shy and quiet. I'm hardly ever "hyper" and when I am, it's in my own mellow way.
Do you think you'll be successful at life? At life, yes. In my career, who knows.
What's been your best accomplishment thus far? Probably getting into the creative writing track at the university.
Got a favorite song? It changes all the time. Right now it's The Fear You Won't Fall by Joshua Radin
Have you graduated yet? If not, when do you? High school, yes. College, no--not until next May.
What's your relationship status right now? Married.
What's the longest you've ever dated someone? & the shortest? Shortest was a week with Nick, lol. Longest was three years (up until we got married) with Jordan.
Do you like candles? Are there any in the room you're in? Yes! There's five in the room. 3 varieties of apple/apple cinnamon, a pumpkin spice, and a french vanilla (the one I'm burning right now).
Do you like roller coasters? Yes.
What's your favorite carnival type food? (Funnel cakes, snow cones, etc..) Funnel cakes, for sure.
Describe any jewelry you're wearing and explain any importance it might have. I'm wearing my wedding band and my engagement ring. They're important because they remind me that I'm married! And let any guys that might want to hit on me know that I'm married, lol. The diamond in my engagement ring is important to me as well because it's been in my family for years.
Is your cell phone touch screen? If you have one. Nope.
Are you an aunt/uncle? If so, how many nieces/nephews do you have? Yes, but only by marriage. Jordan and I have one niece and one nephew.
Would you rather write with a pen with black ink or some crazy color? Black ink.
Do you have a good relationship with your family? Yes. I miss them.
